What this estimate assumes
Charging efficiency: Level 1 = 85%, Level 2 = 90%, Level 3 = 92%. This is the hidden cost most calculators ignore \u2014 energy lost as heat during charging means your meter reads more than your battery receives.
Typical power per level: Level 1 ≈ 1.44 kW, Level 2 ≈ 7.4 kW, Level 3 ≈ 50 kW. Your actual charger may differ \u2014 check your wall unit's nameplate.
Gasoline comparison: US average $3.50/gallon, 30 mpg, 3.5 miles/kWh for a typical EV. Your local comparison may vary \u2014 but EVs win in almost every US market.
Charge per session: Defaults to 80% of battery \u2014 the sweet spot for battery longevity. Charging to 100% every time costs more and wears the battery faster.

The formula
Grid energy = Battery kWh × Charge% ÷ Charging efficiency
Cost per charge = Grid energy kWh × Electricity rate per kWh
Monthly cost = Cost per charge × Sessions per week × 52 ÷ 12
The charging-efficiency factor accounts for energy lost as heat during AC-to-DC conversion. It is the reason your meter reads slightly more than the battery capacity you actually receive.
